Title: In Fire
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] dehautdesert
Rating: Explicit
Word Count/Length/Size: 104670+ (ongoing)
Characters/Pairing: Anakin/Obi-Wan, Anakin & Luke
Warnings/Notes: Alternate Universe - Silent Hill Fusion, Survival Horror, Psychological Horror, Implied/Referenced Rape/Non-con, Mind Rape, dark themes, Gore, Slow Burn

Creator's Summary: When Darth Maul escapes from custody on Mandalore, Anakin and Obi-Wan race straight from their recent victory to attempt to intercept him, resulting in a firefight over a mysterious planet and both their vessels crashing outside of a town the local authorities dare not go near.

With Obi-Wan gravely injured in the fight, Anakin must venture into the settlement alone to search for parts to repair their ship. But this town, it appears, was once a Sith stronghold, and the longer Anakin spends there the more it twists into a world of someone's nightmarish delusions brought to life. Monsters roam the streets, great chasms line the roads and more than half the doors he tries are locked. His only allies are a mysterious boy who was stranded here searching for his father...

... and Obi-Wan?

Reasons for reccing: This fic perfectly captures the Star Wars universe while also maintaining all of Silent Hill's usual tropes. If you're a fan of horror I'd say it's a good choice.

Title: The Tatooine Cycle
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] Fialleril
Rating: G
Word Count/Length/Size: 12,634 words | 5 works
Characters/Pairing: Shmi Skywalker, Anakin Skywalker, Kitster Banai, Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa
Warnings/Notes: Canonical Slavery
Creator's Summary: A connected series of fics that place Tatooine at the bright center of the universe, and focus in particular on the lives, beliefs, struggles, world views, and stories of the slave characters. In part an effort to reintroduce the issue of slavery as something central to the narrative and to the characters' conceptions of themselves, as well as an effort to prioritize the stories of non-Jedi, non-Core world characters.

Reasons for reccing: This is a really great little series that delves deep into Tatooine's culture, the culture of slavery--centering it as a struggle in ways that the films didn’t, and mythology that dits nicely into the Star Wars universe while still creating something new and unique. All of the characters are really well written and their struggles are emotional and impactful.

Title: How The Last Jedi Defies Expectations
Creator: Pop Culture Detective
Rating: -
Word Count/Length/Size: 20:49 minutes
Characters/Pairing: Poe Dameron, Finn, Luke Skywalker
Warnings/Notes: TLJ-Positive
Creator's Summary: The Last Jedi is a movie that’s designed to defy fan expectations. Nowhere is this subversion more evident than in the way the film handles its three male heroes: X-Wing pilot Poe Dameron, renegade Stormtrooper Finn, and legendary Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker.

Reasons for reccing: This is a good analysis about how TLJ expertly defied and subverted expectations, specifically in regards to its male characters. And how a lot of the anger against this film (not all) is because of the ways the male characters are portrayed to be more vulnerable rather than perfect power fantasies and how the male characters are challenged by the female characters. This is a great analysis that examines how TLJ subtly talks about femininity and masculinity and the ways it challenges traditional masculinity.

Word Count/Length/Size: one image
Characters/Pairing: Ben Solo, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia Organa
Warnings/Notes:
Creator's Summary: See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil.

A Skywalker-Solo family portrait inspired by THE RISE OF KYLO REN comics.

Reasons for reccing: This is a dark and haunting image that shows how Ben’s family failed him because they failed to perceive the evil, Snoke, that was haunting him. The adult’s faces have disturbingly pleasant smiles compared to the terrified and anxious look on Ben’s face as he gazes up to his supposed protectors.

Title: The Greatest Teacher Failure is
Creator: Heroes Fan Productions
Rating: -
Word Count/Length/Size: 8:11 minutes
Characters/Pairing: Luke Skywalker, Yoda
Warnings/Notes: TLJ-Era
Creator's Summary: Anyway, this is a tribute about not only Luke Skywalker, but also a bit about our beloved Master Yoda himself. These were two Grand Masters that fostered two different eras of Jedi, but failed them in similar ways.

Now, I myself have many issues with the creative decisions Rian Johnson took with this movie. It tonally struggled throughout its narrative which allowed the movie to be unbalanced. There were also other subplots that really weighed the movie down as well. However, most of the scenes with Luke Skywalker I completely adored. The scene with Luke failing Ben took me awhile to really accept, but in the end I finally understood.

Fear has driven the Jedi for so long and most of them didn't even know it. The motives and intentions were just, but it became their own undoing. Luke and Yoda both suffered from their fear of the dark side, but that fear was what ultimately created it. Anakin was the victim of that system, and Luke understood that, which is why he thought it was best for him to die and the Jedi with it. Not just because of the Jedi order, but mostly because of his hate for himself and how miserably he failed.

This movie taught me that even the best of us can hit rock bottom, but it's what we do with that situation that truly shows our character. Luke's arc in The Last Jedi was great because he learned the importance of forgiving himself and making amends for past failures. It wasn't about throwing away the past, it was about learning from it in order to move forward.

Thank you all so much and I hope you enjoy this video!! May the Force be with you all, always.

Reasons for reccing: This is one of the best fanvids for The Last Jedi in regards to celebrating Luke Skywalker’s character. This vid does a fantastic job of portraying Luke’s character and his journey throughout Star Wars and his ending in The Last Jedi.

Title: The Case Against The Jedi Order
Creator: Pop Culture Detective
Rating: -
Word Count/Length/Size: 25:51 minutes
Characters/Pairing: Anakin Skywalker, Luke Skywalker
Warnings/Notes: -
Creator's Summary: At their core, George Lucas's six Star Wars films are coming of age stories about boys becoming men. Both Luke and Anakin Skywalker are guided and shaped by the principles of the Jedi Order but buried within Jedi teachings we find some troubling and deeply unhealthy ideas about masculinity.

Reasons for reccing: This is a really thought-provoking video that criticizes the Jedi Order and what it represents, especially in regards to how its ideology of emotional detachment ultimately led to Anakin’s fall to the Dark Side. I don’t agree with all of the conclusions of this video essay; I think the Youtuber, Jonathan McIntosh is a bit harsh on George Lucas, in particular, and wrongly conflates the failings of the Jedi Order with Lucas’ and the Star Wars saga’s own philosophy. I always felt that the prequel trilogy was rightfully critical of the Jedi and portrayed them to be a well-intentioned Order that lost its way and became blinded by arrogance and hypocrisy.

Title: N/A, gifsets usually don’t have titles
Creator: [tumblr.com profile] theriseoftheskywalker, tracking on #userandea on Tumblr
Rating: -
Word Count/Length/Size: 6 gifs
Characters/Pairing: Luke Skywalker
Warnings/Notes: Parallel of Luke from Return of the Jedi and The Last Jedi.
Creator's Summary: He would bring destruction, and pain, and death, and the end of everything I love because of what he will become. And for the briefest moment of pure instinct, I thought I could stop it.

It passed like a fleeting shadow.

Reasons for reccing: George Lucas once said, “It’s like poetry, they rhyme.” This is one of my favorite descriptions of the storytelling methods of Star Wars, particularly the Skywalker saga. This gifset perfectly captures that by contrasting the Luke in Return of the Jedi who briefly gave into his anger and fear when he attacked his father and the Luke in The Last Jedi who briefly gave into his fear when he brandished his lightsaber over Ben. It’s chilling to see how similar the scenes are side by side, with Luke’s anger and later realization and regret being paralleled.

Creator's Summary: "I’ve seen this raw strength only once before, in Ben Solo. It didn’t scare me enough then. It does now"

The Last Jedi digital painting done by yours truly! I really wanted to echo the prequel trilogy theatrical posters with this one.

Reasons for reccing: It's just a really beautiful fan poster and the artist utterly succeeds in what they were trying to dp by creating a very strong echo on the prequel trilogy posters.
