Title: The Old Republic: Rescue Mission
Creator: Torrm Production
Rating: T
Word Count/Length/Size: 21:22 minutes
Characters/Pairing: Original Characters, Mission Vao Darth Revan
Warnings/Notes: Canon-Typical Violence, Character Death
Creator's Summary: WINNER of 4 JMC Academy 2015 Martini Awards for Best Direction, Best Musical Score, Best Post-Production & Best Overall Picture!

What if the only way to be a hero was to become a villain?

The Old Republic: Rescue Mission is a passion project born from the idea of breaking the bounds of achievability. Begun as a small collective of individuals to soon becoming a larger team, we set out with an aim to create some of the best fan-made content ever to be based from the Star Wars Expanded Universe lore. It is an original story featuring Mission Vao and Revan, set between the events of the KOTOR game and Drew Karpyshyn's novel 'Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan'.

'A thief captured for reasons involving a galactic threat is the target of a rescue attempt by the Republic’s finest, botched by the fallen hero she had served with many years ago.'

Reasons for reccing: The music in this film is really superb and the action sequences are really well choreographed to create really suspenseful and action-packed sequences. The audio sounds a bit off to me and the acting is a bit variable at times with occasional stiltedness, but generally it’s well done for a fanfilm. Where this film truly succeeds is with its characterization of Revan. He’s a truly menacing and powerful figure. The film does a great job of portraying his philosophy of the Force and the way he tends to walk both pasts by using the dark side to justify extreme actions. And the actor for Revan is phenomenal!

Title: Why Was Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic SO AWESOME?!
Creator: The Act Man [twitter.com profile] TheActMan_YT
Rating: T
Word Count/Length/Size: 49:28 minutes
Characters/Pairing: N/A
Warnings/Notes: Crass Humor, Parody, Use of the r-slur and other “humorous” insults towards intelligence,.
Creator's Summary: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is often considered one of the greatest video games of all time, and the best Star Wars game ever made. But what exactly was it that made KOTOR so awesome? Why did it gather such a huge following and what is the secret to it's immense popularity and critical acclaim? Well, there's only one way to find out...

Reasons for reccing: Firstly, the intro sequence is absolutely hilarious and perfectly captures all of the awkward dialogue and janky animations of the original game through the creator’s live-action rendition of the game’s opening sequence on the Endar Spire. I’d recommend this video solely for those first two minutes.

But the vast majority of the video is a really in-depth exploration of the game’s mechanics and storyline that explores why this game has become so beloved even after all of these years.

I don’t really care for the brand of humor that is done throughout the video, it’s very typical … “YouTuber” humor, but it isn’t as offensive as other YouTubers and is at most mildly annoying.

Title: Hoshino - Star Wars Fan Film
Creator: Stephen Vitale
Rating: T
Word Count/Length/Size: 7:02 minutes
Characters/Pairing: Original Jedi Characters, Master & Padawan Relationship
Warnings/Notes: Some Minor Violence
Creator's Summary: The tale of blind Jedi Master Ko Hoshino and her journey to becoming one with the Force.

Reasons for reccing: It’s a really wonderful fanfilm that tells a whole character’s journey and arc within seven minutes from a young and boisterous padawan to a wise a disciplined Jedi Master. The acting is top-notch and everything is remarkably well executed and filmed for a fan project. This film also had one of my favorite descriptions about a lightsaber ever, “it’s a sword that can be turned off. It doesn’t have to be a sword at all.” That’s a really nice sentiment that reflects the Jedi’s nonviolent philosophy.

Title: DARTH MAUL: Apprentice
Creator: [youtube.com profile] T7pro
Rating: T
Word Count/Length/Size: 17:48 minutes
Characters/Pairing: Darth Maul, several unnamed Jedi OCs
Warnings/Notes: Violence, Death, Intense Lightsaber Duels
Creator's Summary: We worked incredibly hard on this film for almost 2 years! We always felt that Darth Maul should have had more screen time. So we wanted to create a film just for him with the best lightsaber fights we could do! This is not based on any books, comics etc.

Reasons for reccing: This is one of the best fan films I have ever seen within the Star Wars fandom. The lightsaber battles are incredibly intense and professionally choreographed. The story within the film is simple, but deeply intense and it really pulls at your emotions. The actor for Maul does a brilliant job at portraying his anger and rage, and the other actors in the film also portray their role brilliantly, especially the young padawan. It’s an absolute intense film and works as a wonderful prequel for Darth Maul before his appearance in The Phantom Menace.
